Halloween snacks and meals
29 October, 2026
Halloween is just around the corner, and the kids' excitement is through the roof! Between the costumes, the pumpkins and trick-or-treating, this holiday is the perfect opportunity to add a little magic to your plates. No need to be a chef or spend hours in the kitchen: with a bit of imagination, even the simplest meals can become wonderfully spooky. Here are a few ideas to make your little monsters shiver... with delight!
A monstrously good breakfast
Why not start the day in style? Pumpkin-shaped pancakes, coloured with a little pumpkin purée (or just food colouring!) and decorated with chocolate chips, are sure to win over even the pickiest eaters. A slice of toast spread with cream cheese can also turn into a mummy with a few strips of cheese and two blueberries for eyes. And to drink, a green spinach and banana smoothie instantly becomes a “witch's potion”!
A frightfully fun lunch box
At school, a little surprise in the lunch box always goes over well. Here are a few easy ideas:
- peeled clementines with a small celery stick poked into the centre, which become little pumpkins;
- bananas cut in half with two chocolate chips for eyes, which turn into ghosts;
- a sandwich cut into a bat or black cat shape with a cookie cutter;
- hard-boiled eggs decorated with edible markers to turn them into bulging eyeballs.
Spooky after-school snacks
When kids get home from school, they're often a little hungry. It's the perfect time to whip up a themed snack:
- “witch fingers” made from cheese sticks, with an almond or a piece of red pepper for the fingernail;
- apple slices topped with peanut butter and mini marshmallows, which form big mouths full of teeth;
- a yogurt dip served in a hollowed-out orange pepper carved like a jack-o'-lantern, with raw veggies on the side;
- popcorn mixed with a few orange and black candies.
Dinner before the big trick-or-treat run
It's the golden rule of Halloween: a good meal before heading out on the candy hunt! A full tummy helps kids keep their energy up and resist the temptation to eat their whole haul along the way. Here are a few quick and fun dinner ideas:
- individual pizzas decorated like spider webs with thin lines of cheese, or like mummies with strips of cheese;
- squash soup served in a hollowed-out bread roll, like a cauldron;
- “mummy hot dogs”: sausages wrapped in strips of puff pastry, then baked in the oven;
- squid ink or pesto pasta, for an intriguing black or green plate.
Keep the menu simple: excitement is running high, and the kids can't wait to put on their costumes!
A dessert to end on a high note
If you'd like to make dessert, go for fun ideas that aren't too sweet, since the candy is on its way! Clementines dressed up as pumpkins, strawberries dipped in white chocolate to make ghosts, or pumpkin muffins topped with a chocolate spider will be a huge hit.
Halloween is, above all, a celebration for having fun and making memories. With a few simple ideas, your meals will become a real part of the magic. So, aprons on... and happy Halloween!
